Profile accuracy and ownership
Updated October 19, 2026
Representatives must be authorized to manage their office and provide accurate information. Do not publish misleading qualifications, unlawful content or images without permission. Approved ownership does not verify each lawyer’s professional licence.
Who may claim or register a law office
- Applications may be submitted only by the law office itself, through an owner, partner or responsible lawyer, or by a representative expressly authorized to act for that office. Clients, unrelated third parties and persons without authority must not claim or register an office.
- Employees, marketing agencies and other third-party representatives must identify their role and provide written authorization from an authorized office decision-maker. The authorization should identify the office, representative, permitted responsibilities and a contact through whom we can independently confirm it.
- We may request confirmation through an independently verified business email or telephone number and relevant supporting documentation. Registration, payment, a matching email domain or a licence document alone does not establish authority to manage a profile.
- The office dashboard may provide access to client enquiries, contact information and private communications. Access is restricted to approved representatives and must be used only for the office’s legitimate business purposes.
- Provide accurate office and representative details. Do not impersonate a lawyer, submit misleading evidence, claim another office or create duplicate profiles to bypass review.
- Keep account credentials and inbox passphrases confidential. Do not share access with unauthorized persons or upload client files as evidence of your authority. Submit only the information reasonably needed for verification.
- Notify us promptly when a representative leaves, their authority changes, credentials are compromised or access is disputed. We may request renewed verification and restrict access while a concern is reviewed.
- Ownership approval confirms permission to manage the listing; it is not a finding about a lawyer’s licence, competence or suitability. Subscription eligibility is assessed separately. Contact lawyers@canadalawyers.net to report unauthorized access or request a review.
Claiming or registering
Claim an existing profile before creating a new one. If your office is absent, submit the registration form with your business details and authority to represent it. New registrations remain outside the public directory until an administrator approves them.
Keeping information accurate
Office owners are responsible for names, descriptions, locations, practice areas and uploaded images. Update changes promptly. Describe qualifications accurately and do not imply that ownership approval or a paid badge is a professional endorsement.
Corrections and ownership disputes
Report duplicate, outdated or unauthorized profiles with the profile link and a short explanation. We may request evidence of authority before changing ownership. Do not send client files as evidence. Subscription activation and ownership review are separate steps.
